YOU GO YOUR WAY
Perrie Edwards Releases New Single “You Go Your Way”: Story Behind the Song
Perrie has dropped her latest single, "You Go Your Way", which delves into themes of growth, resilience, and the power of letting go. The track was originally crafted as an underground club single by the London-based dance duo Joy Anonymous, who later shared it with Perrie during a creative session, where she felt deeply connected to the message of the song.
The lyrics reflect a personal experience from the early days of Perrie’s relationship with her fiancé, Alex. At that time, they were still in the honeymoon phase, but their relationship wasn’t yet official. As Perrie was preparing to leave for a lengthy tour in the US, she felt uncertain about the pressure it might place on such a new relationship. She suggested to Alex that they should pause things and go their separate ways for a while. The song captures that crucial moment in a relationship when you have to let go, trusting that, if it’s meant to be, the other person will come back.
“I told Alex, you go your way and I’ll go mine and if it’s meant to be we’ll find each other again when I am back," Perrie explains. "He wasn’t happy with this idea and made our relationship official there and then! Fast forward 8 years and we are very happy, engaged, and have our beautiful son. I truly believe if you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, it was never meant to be.”
